Why You Should Consider Follicular Unit Transplantation

The Description and In-Depth Procedure of Follicular Unit Transplants

Follicular Unit Transplant

Follicular unit transplantation, or FUT, is a well-known surgical hair replacement method. This process involves harvesting hair follicles by manually removing a strip of hair from the back of the scalp. This hair graft is then used to obtain follicular units, which are transferred to the area of the scalp needing attention. You can think of this method as a scalp transplant, taking your own healthy hair follicles and transferring them to where they are needed. Using hair from the client's own head has proven to not only look more natural, but it also has a more successful outcome.
At HairMD, we've treated thousands of satisfied clients. What Is The FUT Procedure Like?

The donor hair is trimmed creating a strip about ¼ inch wide, extending on the back of the scalp as much as ear to ear. After a local anesthetic is injected, the strip is removed and closed with stitches or surgical staples.
A linear scar is created, but with minimal hair length, it is not usually obvious. The strip is sectioned, placed under microscopes, and the FUs are removed and placed into dishes filled with a cold preservative solution. After the grafts are prepared, the bald scalp is outlined and injected with a local anesthetic. Placement is made by nicking the scalp with varying sized needles, and the 1 to 4 hair FUs are inserted into the tiny openings.
